Product Description

Oil palm fronds (OPF) is the largest biomass which makes up to 70% of the total residues generated from the palm oil industry. OPF is one of the most abundant agricultural by-products in Malaysia. Almost all pruned fronds are discarded in the plantation, mainly for nutrient recycling and soil conservation. OPF has a great potential for use as a roughage source or as a component in compound feed for ruminants, especially as a fibre source. Fermented OPF would produce additional nutrient in term of protein up to 1.5% – 2.5%.

Dry OPF can be stored for a long period up to 2 years and can be used up to 30% – 50% of the formulated feed depends on other raw materials. Oil palm fronds are a low-protein, high-fibre material that is palatable and to have a good feeding potential for many classes of herbivore livestock, including cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats, deers and rabbits. As matter of fact, OPF also can be crushed, dried and compacted for use as fuel in wood-fired boilers and co-firing in power plants.
